The 2017 guide that we published - together with the Landmark Cases - will inform you on the details of the cases, as well as the cases from the past and future. You can also discover additional references to other publications where you can find subjects that you would like to find.
The Guide is a dedicated publication in line with the prominence which has been given to the continuing need to reinforce efforts to disseminate the key case-law of the Court. The Court has been particularly active in this field over the years, as attested by the constant attention it gives to the development of the HUDOC database and the important work it has carried out in publishing the Case-law Information Notes, the Practical Guide on Admissibility Criteria, and the series of case-law guides and thematic Factsheets. It is essential that the case-law of the Court is known and applied at the domestic level. We believe that this new initiative will contribute to this endeavour. To be familiar with the Court’s jurisprudence is central to the proper application of the Convention at the domestic level. The publication is also timely and intended to create a practical and useful means of exchanging relevant information on Convention case-law and related matters.
Within the Guide you will find different colors where you can link to the articles. The Guide is intended to focus on the most important cases which the Court has dealt with over the year in question. They may raise issues of general interest, establish new principles or develop or clarify the case-law. The Guide will obviously refer to those judgments and decisions. The approach is to draw attention to the salient points of the cases, allowing the reader to appreciate the jurisprudential significance of a particular case.
The Guide can also be ordered seperately. There will be another Guide that will combine all most important cases of the European Court of Human Rights related to all the articles of the European Convention from 2016/2017/2018.

The European Court of Human Rights is an international court based in Strasbourg and part of the Council of Europe. It rules on individual or inter-State applications alleging violations of the rights and freedoms set out in the European Convention on Human Rights by any of the Council’s 47 member States. The Court’s case-law makes the Convention a powerful living instrument for consolidating the rule of law and democracy in Europe.
The Reports of Judgments and Decisions is the official series of leading cases selected by the most senior judges at the Court because of their high jurisprudential interest. Each judgment and decision is published in English and French and is preceded by a summary – including case description, keywords and key notions – for ease of reference. The Reports are primarily designed for legal professionals, libraries and academics and complement the case-law information available on the Court’s website
La Cour européenne des droits de l’homme est une juridiction internationale qui siège à Strasbourg et fait partie du Conseil de l’Europe.
